Bilge is a dark liquid, like bottled night, collected from the slag that accumulates in the toxin-soaked hull of a ship. It smells like shit. It contains, among a variety of iridescent ingredients: diesel, food scraps, rubbing alcohol, roach corpses, flecks of soap, and a spilled, purer form of its undistilled self known as graywater.
